Son, Hold On

from Go Forward by Dwayne Cook

about

We all want our children to grow up in the care and comfort of the Lord. My son Brandon was saved at a young age. He wandered away from the Lord as most kids do in their teenage and college years. I was praying one night when I didn’t know where he was or what he was doing. As I prayed a prayer of encouragement for him, the Lord was encouraging me with the same words. This song wrote itself.

lyrics

Verse 1
Son hold on. It won’t be long
Until He wakes Himself inside of you
And you’ll realize what He can do
It’s true. He’s alive in you
He began a good work in your life
When you’re ready He will make it right

Chorus
I said son hold on I’m right behind you now
I’ll be there when you’re ready to allow
The work that’s planned for you to do
When you’ve grown enough to see it through
Someday you’re going to make it right
I’ve been thinking of you day and night
One day you’ll see how much you’ve grown
I said son hold on

Verse 2
Father how can I show him now
That you love him more than he could know
You want so much for him to grow
Help me see. It’s You not me
Who must do what’s necessary now
To bring him back to you somehow

Chorus 2
He said son hold on I’m right behind you now
I’ll be there when you’re ready to allow
The work that’s planned for you to do
When you’ve grown enough to see it through
Someday you’re going to make it right
I’ve been thinking of you day and night
One day you’ll see how much you’ve grown
He said son hold on

Bridge
Well I see in you the work of Him
You pulled through when it looked so dark and din
May you look to Him in all you do
Oh son, I’m so proud of you

Chorus 3
Son hold on I’m right behind you now
I’ll be there when you’re ready to allow
The work that’s planned for you to do
When you’ve grown enough to see it through
Someday you’re going to make it right
I’ve been thinking of you day and night
One day you’ll see how much you’ve grown
Son hold on

Dwayne Cook Grantville, Georgia

I was injured in a hunting accident in 1986. I have been in a wheelchair since.

After years of unproductive activities--trying to prove to the world that being in a wheelchair was not going to keep me from living a "normal" life, I gave my life to Jesus Christ.

On March 10, 1990 He saved my soul. After six years of college and beginning a new career as an accountant, I began writing songs.
